Criteria For Selecting Induction Class

The La Mirada High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee will be responsible for the selection of La Mirada High School Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. The committee will meet every year to vote on candidates for the LMHS Hall of Fame.

The Committee shall vote on the nominees it determines suitable for consideration.

The maximum number of yearly inductees will be limited to one team and ten individuals.

The inaugural induction class (Spring 2022) will include no more than two teams and 10 individuals.

Criteria for selection into an induction class will come from one of the following four categories.

Eligibility/Criteria

Athletes, coaches, teams, administrators or supporters, living or deceased, shall be eligible for induction, subject to the criteria below. All nominees must represent the La Mirada High School tradition of excellence.

Athlete

  1. Any person who has distinguished himself/herself in the field of athletics while a student at La Mirada High School. The nominee must have graduated from La Mirada High School, 5 years prior to induction.
  2. The LMHS Hall of Fame Committee will have discretion in unique, special circumstances (i.e.; death, accident) that may prevent an inductee from LMHS graduation.
    Athletes must have lettered in one or more Varsity sports. If the sport does not offer a Varsity letter, but an athlete has competed at the varsity level, the committee may consider the athlete for induction.
  3. Athletic ability, sportsmanship, character, leadership, and the contribution to a team will be considered.
  4. A similar standard of ethics shall have characterized the years following an inductee’s time at La Mirada High School, to the best of the committee’s knowledge.
  5. Consideration of All-Conference, All-State, awards, any individual or team championship, national awards, any record or winning streak, league leader in recognized statistical category, college scholarship, etc.
    a. shall be considered. Achievements should be on record and verified by copies of news clippings, yearbooks, certificates of awards, etc. (All-star teams, tournaments, and awards were less common in earlier eras and documentation of achievements might not exist, especially for older nominees. This should be taken into consideration.)
  6. Consideration of post-graduate activities including college and professional experience shall be considered.

Coach

  1. The nominee must be inactive to be eligible for consideration.
  2. Any coach with 10 years coaching experience at LMHS is eligible (the Committee may make exceptions as to years experience in unique, special circumstances).
  3. Accomplishments (individual or team) must have merited league and/or state recognition, as well as made significant contributions to the athletic programs at LMHS. Coaching ability, loyalty to LMHS, leadership, character, athletic expertise, significant contribution to their teams and to the sports they coached must have been demonstrated.
  4. The same ethical and life standards expected of his/her athletes shall also characterize the life of the coach.

Team

  1. A team may be eligible for nomination after 9 years of their championship season.
  2. Consideration will be made based on Championship teams having attained record status, consideration of All-Conference, All-State, awards, any team championship, national awards, any record or winning streak, league leader in recognized statistical category, etc. Achievements should be on record and verified by copies of news clippings, yearbooks, certificates of awards, etc.
    A. (All-star teams, tournaments, and awards were less common in earlier eras and documentation of achievements might not exist, especially for older nominees. This should be taken into consideration.)

Contributor

  1. May include an administrator, staff member, volunteer or supporter who has made outstanding contributions to the athletic programs at La Mirada High School.
  2. Exceptional leadership, character, loyalty to LMHS and the passion for, and support of, the success of LMHS athletics is paramount.

La Mirada High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee reserves the right to remove any individual from the Hall of Fame for personal conduct, which discredits the athletic program of La Mirada High School.
